Content Management Systems

Content Management Systems or CMS are software systems that allow users or groups of users to update content on a web site.

  • Do you want to update your site regularly with new articles and information?
  • Will your site be updated by several users and be able to keep track of changes?
  • Do you want to have online product catalogues or shopping carts?
  • Do you want to use your site to keep a group/community of users informed?

If you answered yes to any of those questions then chances are you will need a CMS.

We use software called Joomla and Drupal for CMS sites we design. Joomla and Drupal are open source packages that will run on any Linux based webserver that has PHP & MySQL. We offer customisation of either Joomla or Drupal based sites. We can help you to decide which better suits your needs.

Going with an open source model has several advantages:

  • The software is free. It costs nothing and it can be modified to suit your needs.
  • You are not paying for us to develope the software, so costs can be significantly reduced.
  • It is in constant development. There is a team of programmers out there constantly improving it by speeding it up, making it more secure.
  • You are not locked into hosting on our servers. Providing your web server is Linux based and supports PHP and MySQL, the CMS will run just fine.
  • Help is available online. Joomla in particular has an excellent printable manual. Most open source software have excellent developer communities behind them.
  • There are often numerous third party add ons than can be installed with the CMS to further enhance it. A good example is Virtuemart, an e-commerce add on for Joomla.
